Holiday Pet Safety Tips

Tis the season! Unfortunately, this season can be a dangerous one for our pets. Follow a few simple recommendations and keep them safe this holiday season!

Cold Weather Hazards - De-icing products can cause skin irritation if contacted by with the fur and paws. Thoroughly wipe paws and tummy after contact. Use pet friendly antifreeze products.

Keep Holiday Decorations Out of Reach - Glass, metal, ribbons, and tinsel can all lead to medical emergencies if ingested.

Place Holiday Plants High Off the Ground - Ivy, Holly, Mistletoe, Poinsettia, Lilies, and Christmas Greens can all be dangerous toxins if ingested. Also do not allow pets to drink Christmas tree water it can be harmful too.

Keep a Watchful Eye on Pets - We all love a party but it can be a frightening experience for a pet with all the chaos they can easily run away. Designate a quiet secure "pet room" away from the crowd and be sure that your pet is microchipped and that the chip is registered with current information. Also make sure your pets are wearing their collars and current ID tags.

Fight the Temptation to Feed Table Scraps - Fatty holiday meals can cause a lot of gastrointestinal upsets and remember chocolate contains a chemical that is highly toxic to pets.
